Book One
Welcome to Bluenote Book One……
The objective of this first collection of popular songs is to help the complete beginner learn their first chord vocabulary. As well as a dictionary of fifteen open chords, the student will develop a sense of rhythm, time and tempo. This will be achieved by jamming together during lessons with a drum machine. As a result a strong feel for rhythm will be obtained, as well as making the lessons a lot more fun. Before any student begins guitar lessons, I would like to recommend you purchase an electronic guitar tuner, as in my experience this can make the difference between success and failure in your attempt to learn guitar. You will be far more motivated to practice on a pleasant sounding instrument and practice is as important as taking lessons! So you have your guitar, a tuner, The Bluenote Syllabus and your teacher (me)……. Its time to start strumming !

Book Two
Welcome to Bluenote Book Two……
This book is designed to help guitarists with knowledge of basic open chords, make the transition into the world of the Barre chord. This process is vital if you are to develop a comprehensive and complete chord vocabulary. We will achieve this goal by first learning about the magic of the chromatic scale and moveable power chord shapes (5ths). This exciting new development will also allow us to begin experimenting with new guitar sounds created by using effects pedals such as overdrive and distortion. Once you are comfortable with E and A shape power chords we will move on to full Major, Minor and Dominant Barre Chord shapes. This will increase your chord vocabulary from 15 to 87 chords! In addition we will be looking at new rhythm patterns, using 16th notes and syncopation. So you have your guitar, amplifier and stomp box (effect pedal). The neighbours have their earplugs. In the words of the mighty AC/DC “ FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK WE SALUTE YOU”

Book Three
Welcome to Bluenote Book Three……
Book three starts by revising both the E and A string Chromatic scales. These vital notes not only act as root notes for E and A shape Barre chords, they will also help you locate Pentatonic Scales in different keys when we begin to learn Lead Guitar Techniques. Revision is crucial part of learning any Musical Instrument, if you only practice new material your repertoire will always be limited.
New ideas and techniques in Book Three include fast power chord riffs and advanced Barre chord songs, these will develop speed and stamina. We will start to look at single note riffs and the skill students enjoy most, playing Lead Guitar. Soloing is one of the most exciting and fun aspects of playing Guitar, we will begin to develop these skills by learning to use pentatonic scale shapes in a Rock and Blues context.

Book Four
Welcome to Bluenote Book Four..……
Book Four is the last method book in the Bluenote series. At this stage you should have a vast chord vocabulary and a good sense of rhythm and time. These skills are crucial if you are going to join a band, because in Rock and Pop we are playing rhythm 90 % of the time. However for the progressive Guitarist the fun really starts when you are given a solo. Soloing is one of the most fun and creative ways of expressing yourself as a Musician but it can also seem a little daunting. So to unlock the door to the world of the soloist Book Four will show you the scales, techniques, and ideas you need to continue your development as a Guitarist.
